He was the ninth child born to Leslie and Nellie Webb with the children named alphabetically from A to H. A couple of the children did not survive at birth. Gary was raised on a farm in a two-room home. Gary learned to work hard at a young age. He loved animals, especially horses which he spent a lot of time with doing farm work.
