Shirlene Bird Rominger Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Shirlene Bird Rominger, age 90, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 11, 2026. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU staff at Utah Valley Hospital for the compassionate and attentive care they provided. We would also like to thank her granddaughter, Brandy Carter, for the loving care she gave.
Shirlene was born on September 6, 1935, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Floyd Roswell and Naomi Blackett Bird. She married the love of her life, Claude Rominger, in the Bird family home on October 11, 1951. Their cherished family home still stands in Mapleton City Park and is known today as the Mapleton Heritage Museum. Shirlene and Claude were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 13, 1993.
Together, Claude and Shirlene were blessed with five children: Cindy (Brad) Bunce, Kathy Gordon, Jody Long, Ricky (Stacie) Rominger, and Cary Rominger and his partner, Brendan Gross. They also leave behind 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Shirlene worked for many years for Nature’s Sunshine Products, where she was a dedicated employee and was honored as Employee of the Month.
Shirlene found great joy in the outdoors and cherished time spent boating and water skiing with those she loved. Alongside her family, they raised and showed Arabian horses throughout the Northwest, creating treasured memories and lifelong friendships. Her love of recreation continued through the years as she enjoyed bowling in a league with her husband and golfing with the Ladies Association at Hobble Creek Golf Course. She especially loved outings at the golf course with her family.
One of Shirlene’s greatest passions was supporting her family in sports. She spent countless hours at the ball fields, cheering on Claude as he coached their children and grandchildren in baseball, softball, and football.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shirlene dedicated much of her life to serving others. She quietly exemplified Christlike love through compassionate service, a generous heart, and a willingness to help others.
Shirlene’s home was the heart of her family. She and Claude took great pride in tending their garden, canning jams, pickled beets, peaches, pears, tomatoes, and salsa, and sharing it with friends and loved ones. She was especially known for her wonderful holiday meals, where family and friends gathered to enjoy delicious food, laughter, and the warmth of her welcoming spirit.
Above all, Shirlene loved her family. She leaves a legacy of faith, love, dedication, and service that will live on in our hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle nature, enduring examples, and unwavering devotion have left an indelible mark on generations.
She is survived by her four children; her sister, Doris Ann Bulow; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Shirlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Claude Rominger; her parents, Floyd Roswell and Naomi Blackett Bird; her brothers, Duane Bird and Ronnie Bird; and her son, Ricky Rominger.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and in the knowledge that her influence will continue for generations to come. We celebrate a well lived life, centered on family, friendship, service, and love.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville. Family and friends are invited to attend as they gather to honor and celebrate Shirlene’s life and legacy.
