Shauna Jean Swensen Weight
October 6, 1940 – November 14, 2024

Shauna Jean Swensen Weight, born October 6, 1940, in Provo, Utah, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, surrounded by the family she adored above all else. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Shauna's life was a masterpiece of love, faith, and resilience.

Shauna graduated from Provo High School in 1958 and married the love of her life, David Weight, in September 1961. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and a shared appreciation for the arts. A proud alumna of Brigham Young University, she earned her bachelor's degree in 1965 and carried her love of learning into every chapter of her life.

Her heart was always on the stage—whether in the audience of a Broadway musical or bringing stories to life as an actress in community theater or a storyteller at the Provo Library where she worked for over 20 years. Shauna instilled her passion for theater and music in her children and husband who delighted them with tickets to the symphony, Broadway musicals, Hale Centre Theater productions and annual pilgrimages to the Utah Shakespearean Festival for over 50 years.

Though her life was a constant struggle with the effects of bipolar disorder, Shauna turned those struggles into a profound empathy for others. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds, and she made every effort to uplift those who shared similar battles.

As their children grew older, Shauna and Dave developed a love for travel, embarking on adventures with family and a cherished group of friends. Their journeys took them to many countries, where they delighted in exploring the rich culture and history of each destination. Even when travel became physically challenging for Shauna, her love for these adventures with Dave and their friends overcame any physical limitations. These experiences deepened their bonds with loved ones and created a treasure trove of memories that their family will hold dear forever.

Shauna was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and her faith was her guiding star. Her belief in eternal families carried her through the last four years since Dave's passing, as she looked forward to a joyful reunion with him, their son Craig, and her other loved ones. She demonstrated her love for Jesus Christ through her selfless service, generous spirit, and the unconditional love she gave her family and friends. She truly believed that laughter, family, and a home cooked meal could solve almost anything.

Shauna spent her final year-and-a-half in the Jamestown Senior Living Center, where she loved to sit at different tables for her meals so she could meet as many people as possible. And this was the hallmark of her life: she loved people and collected friends wherever she went. Few people suffer as much as she did, but her response was to look outside herself and love others.

Shauna leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her children Eric (Ann), Jeff, Kevin (Keisha), and Cindy, as well as her siblings Laird Swensen (Gloria) and Ann Sumner (Greg), 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her son, Craig; her parents, Russell and Beulah Swensen; and her brother, Swen.

Her family invites you to celebrate her extraordinary life with a viewing on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 6:00- 8:00PM at Nelson Family Mortuary and again on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 9:30-10:45 AM at the Edgemont 6th Ward, 4056 N Timpview Dr., Provo, UT 84605. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

Please share your memories and photos on her memorial page. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her—a testament to a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to ChildFund International ( https://www.childfund.org/ ) in honor of Shauna’s memory. She was a long-time supporter of orphaned children in Honduras through this organization, inspired by her son Craig’s missionary service there.
