Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Ronald Douglas Dunford\n\n\r\n\t\t\t\tRonald Douglas Dunford\n1953-2016\n\nRonald Douglas Dunford, age 63, passed away on June 29, 2016, after a valiant battle with vascular dementia. \n\nRon was born in Greenbrae, California and grew up in Terra Linda and Novato, California. He graduated from Novato High School in 1971. Ron served a mission for the LDS church to Indianapolis, Indiana from 1975-1977 (Sure love ya!). Upon his return home, he began employment with Pacific Gas & Electric Company in California as an apprentice electrician. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Jim Dunford, and worked at The Geysers Geothermal Power Plant in the foothills of Lake County, California for 17 years. The next 17 years were spent working for PG&E in Santa Rosa, California. His final job title was Senior IT Project Manager. He was looking forward to retiring in April 2018 after 40 years of working for the same company.\n\nIn 1980, he married Cynthia (Cindy) West in the Oakland, California LDS temple. They made their home in Santa Rosa, California. There they raised four children: Ryan, Rachelle, Ross, and Rebecca. Ron was so proud of his children, and was delighted by his 10 grandchildren, including two sets of twins born in 2015 and 2016.\n\nRon was an active member of the LDS church. He served in many positions including Ward Mission Leader, Counselor in Bishoprics, Bishop, and High Council. He especially enjoyed the callings of Scout Master and Varsity Team Leader. He spent many summers hiking and camping with the young men in his ward and cherished those memories. He loved the 50-milers spent hiking through Desolation Wilderness and the Sierras.\n\nRon loved to serve and to help others. He was a handyman extraordinaire who could fix, mend, build, or repair anything. He was often found on Saturdays out in “Ron’s Workshop” in the garage working on a project for the home or yard, or helping out someone in need.\n\nRon is survived by his wife, Cindy, and his children Ryan & Cazra Dunford, Rachelle & Jeff Mann, Ross & Lacey Dunford, and Rebecca & Derek Astle, as well as his awesome grandchildren: Ava, Teegan, Livi, Westin, Clover, Lucas, Ethan, Audrey, Keira, and Emmy. He is also survived by his parents Jim and Jean Dunford, and siblings Leslee Miller, Randy Dunford, James Dunford and their families. He was preceded in death by his sister Teri Dunford.\n\nThe family would like to thank Sunrise Home Health & Hospice, especially Patty, Pam, and Colette for their tender care during Ron’s final days.\n\nFuneral services will be held Friday, July 8th at 11:00am at Nelson Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo, Utah. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 9:30am-10:30am. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
