As a family, we take comfort knowing that we will see him again and he is joined once more with loved ones who have gone on ahead.\n\nRichard was born on November 28, 1946, in Provo, Utah, to Paul Ephriam and Florence Davis Valgardson. The oldest of seven children, he grew up in Provo attending Wasatch Elementary, Farrer Junior High, Brigham Young High School, and Brigham Young University. While attending BY High, he excelled in all activities but stood out specifically in basketball, football, baseball, and track. He also played on many local baseball and softball teams in the valley.\n\nRichard served an LDS mission to the North British Mission. Upon his return, he accepted a football scholarship to BYU as a lineman, and graduated with a degree in accounting and a minor in business management & economics. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sheila Wright. Together, they were sealed forever in the Provo Temple and blessed with five children.\n\nRichard and Sheila went on to start many different businesses together, focusing on building, construction, and house moving. \n\nRichard was a member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in all positions in which he served. He served in many capacities in the church including bishop, high councilman, gospel doctrine teacher, and his favorite, a Primary teacher. He had a strong testimony and always had a great influence on everyone he worked with.\n\nRichard gained the most joy in being surrounded by his loving family and friends. His passion was working hard and helping others, which he demonstrated often. Hobbies included watching all sports, Dodge Chargers, and anything to do with large trucks. \n\nHe is preceded in death by his father, Paul Ephriam Valgardson, his mother, Florence Davis Valgardson, and his sisters, Mary McEuen and Sarah Valgardson. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Wright Valgardson, and their five children Jason (Erica) Valgardson, Kam (Sarianna) Valgardson, Coby (Beverly) Valgardson, Amanda (Seth) Poulson, and Megan (Scott) Evans. His 21 grandchildren in whom he shows the most pride and love, also survive him.\n\nViewings will be held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N.
