Phyllis Petersen

–

Provo, Utah

We are filled with love and gratitude as we celebrate the life of Phyllis Hamblin Petersen, a gracious woman who lived a life filled with joy, service, love, and faith. Born in Eager, AZ on January 31, 1935, Phyllis lived her teenage years in Northern California where she met the love of her life, Duane, her husband of 71 years. She was a devoted partner as they adventured through life together, living in Louisiana, and Kodiak, Anchorage, and Juneau, Alaska. After retirement she lived in Roseburg, Oregon and enjoyed the deer, sheep, and birds in the area. She resided in Provo, Utah for the last three years, enjoying proximity to family.

Phyllis was a creative soul, gifted with a talent for bringing beauty into the world through her oil paintings, needlework, and decorations. Her funny and loving spirit was a beacon of light to her family, friends, and community. She left a lasting imprint on all who knew her, with her love for flowers, the ocean, shells, the family dogs, and jewelry. Her love for family knew no bounds, always considering them first in all her endeavors. Duane was her constant companion and source of joy. Her love for her children and their families was evident in her pride and support in all their accomplishments. Phyllis was widowed, preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Dora Hamblin. She is survived by her children Sherry Wall (Ray), David (Wren), Karen Huntsman (Don), and Eric (Hannah), 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis’ joy was not only evident in her love of nature and her hobbies but also in her spiritual journey. She was a woman of great faith, having dedicated many years of service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, including roles in Relief Society, Primary, Sunday School, Young Women’s, and as a temple worker. She found great comfort and strength in her faith in Jesus Christ. Above all else, what mattered most to Phyllis was her family and her faith.
