Patricia Peterson Pinegar peacefully passed away on December 27, 2021 with family by her side. She was born in Cedar City, Utah on February 3, 1937 to Wavie Williams and Laurence Peterson. Pat will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and as a faithful and enduring daughter of God. Pat loved how sunflowers followed the sun. She, in turn, taught us all to Follow the Son.
She attended schools in Provo, Hawaii, Glendale CA, and BYU. It was at BYU that she met and married Ed Jolley Pinegar, a tall dark and handsome basketball player. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 28, 1956. They were married for over 64 years in life and will continue forever. He is the love of her life.
Pat loved children, light, flowers, the ocean, and sunsets. All of Heavenly Father’s creations filled her with joy and gratitude. She loved being a mother and a homemaker. She also enjoyed making beautiful, colorful quilts, and gardening.
Pat had a deep love for her Heavenly Father and Savior and was grateful for the many opportunities she had to serve. She served in all of the women’s auxiliaries of the church on a ward and stake level. She also served on the Primary General Board, as Second Counselor in the General Young Women Presidency from 1992 – 1994, and as Primary General President from 1994 – 1999.
Pat and Ed served together in the England London South Mission as President and Mission Mom, and in the Provo MTC as President and Companion. After retirement, they served in Nauvoo at the Joseph Smith Academy, and as senior missionaries in Palmyra, New York. They spent a wonderful winter in Laie, Oahu where Ed taught religion at BYU Hawaii and Pat volunteered and enjoyed walks along the beach. They later served in the temple with Pat as an ordinance worker and coordinator in the Mt. Timpanogos temple. Each calling brought them much joy, especially their 3 years serving as President and Matron of the Manti Temple.
Through all her years of service her greatest joy came from her years being a Mom. She said, “We really tried hard and certainly were not perfect parents but we tried. And with Ed as our leader how blessed we were. Oh how I love my children and aren’t they beautiful.” She is the loving mother of 8, grandmother of 38, great grandmother of 36, and 1 on the way.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed; son, Cory Matthew Pinegar; her parents, Laurence and Wavie Peterson; and her brother, Larry. She is survived by her children – Karie Bushnell (Bruce), Steve Pinegar (Emily), Kelly Hagemeyer (Dale), Kristi Gubler (Ross), Brett Pinegar (Susan), Traci Magleby (Hans), and Tricia Skousen (Jeff). She is also survived by her brother, David Peterson and her sister, Laurelee Passey.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at Nelson Mortuary, 4780 N University Avenue, Provo UT. Due to COVID-19, there will be a private service for immediate family members on Friday, December 31. A webcast will be available at www.nelsonmortuary.com. Pat's favorite scripture is found in Proverbs 3:5-6:
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Pat has placed her trust in the Lord through out her life. Her faith, optimism and work ethic have given her the ability to raise eight children, the courage to carry on after the death of a child, and the skills to serve as a leader in the church. She knows the source of the light in her life. It is the Savior, Jesus Christ, and like the tenacious sunflower that turns to the sun for its light and strength, she turns to the Savior for hers.
