In the grand tapestry of life, some threads are woven with a touch more color and character than others. One such thread was our dear Pamela Sorensen Romney Held, or "Grammy Pammy," to those who had the pleasure of being spoiled by her. Pam, the ever-resilient, funny, thoughtful, and loving soul, was born on November 30, 1955, in Provo, UT, and left us too soon on January 24, 2025.
She was a spicy, home-grown Genola Girl through and through with a knack for finding humor in the mundane. She stamped her way through life, leaving a trail of laughter and joy wherever she went. Pam spent her 69 years giving life the kind of zest that would put a jalapeño to shame. In her prime, you could find Pam wielding a watering can as a Temple Square Gardening Angel or riding to a faraway away temple on a motorcycle with the T.R.A. (Temple Riders Association). She was the embodiment of resilience, always bouncing back stronger from life's curveballs.
Pam’s talents were as numerous as her friends, from gardening and cooking to sewing and making people laugh. She was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of fun. The birthday parties she threw were legendary, complete with custom cakes decorated by Pam herself. Pam’s generosity was only surpassed by her thoughtful nature and love for a well-cooked meal. You knew you were loved when Pam invited you into her kitchen.
Known for her ability to turn any place into a home, she spent the first part of her adult life in Colonia Juárez, Chihuahua México with her first husband, Lynn Romney, and their four children, Jayson, Leslie, Chris & Cody. She remained close to her friends and family there throughout her life. She was known as ‘Aunt Pam‘ to the whole community and was a second mom to many. From Cubmaster to chauffeuring Lobos and cheerleaders to filming every event in town, she became known as Pam-a-vision, lending recorded VHS tapes to people in town.
She later returned to her birthplace of Provo, Utah, where she found love again and married Melville Booth Held III on February 8, 2001, and continued cultivating a life filled with love, joy, and service.
Pam was a dedicated employee who spent 14 rewarding years at Day’s Market Postal Office in Provo, UT. She made the post office somewhere you wanted to go! Always waiting with a smile, ready to help you find the best box and just the right stamp and envelope for your letter to a loved one. She made it her mission to have each customer leave happier than when they came.
Her retirement was filled with her greatest joy: her grandkids. She’s remembered for presents, homemade goodies, visits, singing, sewing teepees, baby blankets and graduation quilts and being silly. Grammy Pammy was always there for every event and milestone in each of their lives, even if it had to be on FaceTime.
Pam was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, continuously serving others and living in accordance with the scripture, "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God" (Mosiah 2:17). This was indeed Pam's mantra. Whether serving others, making people laugh, or spending time with her family, Pam found happiness in the happiness of others.
Pam is survived by her husband, Mel, her children, Jayson Lynn (Amanda) Romney, Leslie Renee (Darren) Turley, Christopher Layne (Cassandra) Romney, Cody Lorell (Amelia) Romney; her step-children January Held (Lynn Nicol), Melville Booth Held IV (Ashley Gail O’Brien),
Bryan (Rachel) Held; seventeen grandchildren, her siblings, Karla (Terry) Lewis and Laurel Sorensen, and countless others that call her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Rowine Sorensen and her sister, Mary Sorensen.
