Michael J Fitzgerald\n\n1957 – 2022\n\nMichael J Fitzgerald, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on December 21, 2022, after battling Lewy Body Dementia for many years. Born to Paul Fitzgerald and Beverly Gayle Janzen Fitzgerald on May 7, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Mike was the third of five children. He was a devoted son and grandson, taking care of his family throughout his life. At thirteen, Michael began losing his vision from genetically inherited juvenile macular degeneration. He attended Brighton High School where he played football, ran track, sang in the concert choir, and earned his Eagle Scout award. After graduating from high school, Mike was called to serve in the Arcadia, California mission from 1976-1978.\n\nMichael started working at a young age, first with a newspaper route and eventually turning his love of land into working in the real estate industry. He met his forever honey Shannon Clark in Logan, Utah while she worked at a health spa that Mike owned. They married in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 14, 1981, and were blessed with five children, two golden retrievers, and a maine coon cat. They made their home in Orem, Utah, Carlsbad, California, and eventually Alpine, Utah where Mike resided until he became incapacitated from his illness. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, visiting the temple every Wednesday. \n\nMichael loved being a father and as a true-blue Cougar fan, Mike was extremely proud that all five of his children graduated from BYU. He loved routine and tradition, was stubborn and smart, and had a great memory for numbers and transaction details from decades ago. Despite the challenges his blindness presented, and the ups and downs in his business endeavors, Mike was eternally optimistic, determined to be happy in daily life, especially enjoying good food, good friends, and good tunes while out on a long drive. We take comfort in knowing he is healthy again on the other side watching over us with 20/20 vision.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Shannon, son Ken (Rachel), daughter Michelle, daughter Melissa (Oleg), daughter Holly, and daughter Shantel along with six grandchildren (Betty, Peter & Charlie; Anya, Benjamin & Adam), his brother and two sisters and much extended family.\n\nThe Fitzgeralds would like to thank the caretakers of Provo Rehabilitation & Nursing and all those who visited him throughout the years. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, from 5 to 7pm at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 North University Avenue, Provo, Utah.
