Marilynn Leonard

–

Provo, Utah

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilynn Rae Leonard, a beacon of wisdom and love, who left us on September 1, 2026. Born on September 11, 1942, in Missoula, MT, Marilynn’s journey took her to Provo, Utah, where she spent her twilight years. Her life was a vibrant tapestry of love, learning, and service, leaving an indelible impression on all who knew her.

Marilynn was a woman of remarkable intellect and spirit. She spent much of her career molding college students as a Professor of Business at Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah. An inspiring figure to her students, Marilynn believed that the best way to predict the future is to create it. Her passion for education was not confined to the lecture halls; it permeated her every interaction, making her a mentor and friend to many. Her retirement marked the end of an illustrious career, but her influence continues to shape the lives of countless individuals.

She was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, further spreading her influence doing Public Relations for the military.

Marilynn Hoyt was married to Leo Leonard on January 2, 1962 in Seattle, Washington. She was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 11, 1964. She was sealed to her husband on February 24, 1966. And they served together as senior missionaries in New Zealand.

Marilynn and her husband Leo Leonard and their only child Richard Leonard lived in Port Angeles Washington as their primary residence. They had a rental condo in SLC and also a condo in same building that they periodically stayed at. Sadly Richard Leonard died in October 2020 and Leo died January 2021. Marilynn suffered from Alzheimer's and Dementia for many years prior to the death of her son and husband. She was very proud of their participation with the US Coast Guard stationed in Port Angeles, WA. She was a loving mother and a high quality person who loved kitties and animals.

Marilynn was preceded in death by her beloved husband and son, Leo and Richard Leonard, and her loving parents, Charles and Mariette Hoyt. She is survived by her cherished sister, Patricia Davis and her niece and caregiver Rachel Meyers and her husband Steven Meyers. Her family will forever carry her in their hearts. A visitation will be held for Marilynn on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 9:30am MDT at the Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 North University Avenue, Provo, Utah, 84604. The funeral service will follow at 10:00am MDT at the same location.

Marilynn’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge.
