Lisa Ashton

–

Provo, Utah

Lisa Marie Clayton Ashton passed away on Saturday, May 20 after a sudden medical issue. She was taken to the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo where physicians found significant internal bleeding that could not be controlled. She was 50 years old.

She was born on July 22, 1972 at University of Utah Hospital. Her mother, Connie Clayton, recorded in her journal, "Lisa Marie is the name we've decided on. Lisa means, 'Consecrated to God.' It is a Hebrew name... She is such a peaceful, sweet baby... She seems to know that she is loved and will be well taken care of." Upon returning home from the hospital, she was welcomed by a large sign in the window, painted by her father, Keith Clayton, which read, "At Last, a Baby Girl!" Keith also finished a special chest of drawers/dresser combination to match a "painted pink bassinet with a dotted, Swiss, white & pink ruffle & ribbon."

On August 3, 1980, she was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived a life of faith and one that was close to the Spirit. She and her family have been greatly blessed by the promptings she received through the years.

She attended Rock Canyon Elementary School and Farrer Junior High School in Provo. While attending Timpview High School, she participated in a foreign-exchange program enabling her to travel to Japan with fellow students and stay with families there for several weeks. She served as Girls President her senior year in high school and went on to graduate from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in Accounting.

Lisa was married to Stuart Ashton on June 27, 1995 in the Salt Lake Temple. Stuart was welcomed into the Clayton family just as Lisa was embraced as an Ashton by Stuart's family. They were devoted partners and parents. Together they joyed in the births of their children Lucia, Camille, Andrew and Annabel. Motherhood was one of Lisa's highest priorities and she spent every moment she could working to help nurture and teach her children. She succeeded, as can be seen on the faces of her praiseworthy and accomplished children. Lisa and Stuart felt very blessed to help send their oldest daughter Lucy to the Alabama Birmingham mission to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As a woman of determination and true principles, Lisa held fast to her faith as she faced considerable challenges. She was tested and tried from every angle and she endured to the end. Lisa possessed a rare quality of finding clarity in times of crisis. When her father was hospitalized in 2019, Lisa sat by his bedside through the night. From her own hospital experiences, she shared wisdom and insight with family members and strengthened and supported them. Perhaps most importantly, she knew and demonstrated the precious virtue of forgiveness. Her heart was filled with love for her family and her many friends.

Lisa is preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Connie Clayton, her older brothers Keith and Michael, her younger brother Jonathan, and by her two adopted sisters, Elfriede and Susan.

She is survived by her husband of almost 28 years, Stuart, by her children, Lucia, Camille, Andrew and Annabel, and by her siblings David Clayton, Julie Campbell, Matthew Clayton, and Amy Bonham.
