Homestead, Florida
On December 4th 2003, Liam Michael Gilbert Mildenstein came into the world calmly and peacefully, and stayed true to that his entire life until his unexpected death on August 1st 2023. Liam was born in Berkeley CA into a Coast Guard family, so he lived throughout the United States in Alameda and Concord CA, Staten Island NY, Houston TX, Mobile AL, Fort Dix NJ, and Homestead FL. He made friends and influenced people everywhere he went!
Rhythm and music were Liam’s soul. He danced from the moment he could walk, and was almost never seen without his headphones. He loved his drum set and jammed out to music from almost every genre. He had a wide range of music he enjoyed, from Twenty One Pilots and instrumental Celtic to TV/Movie soundtracks and hymns. His most prized possession was his wood Celtic flute from Ireland (closely followed by his gaming laptop). Liam loved gaming with friends, and especially his brothers. He was an expert at Splatoon, Rocket League, World of Tanks and Call of Duty: Warzone, and those who knew him will truly miss seeing SirLeeBean pop up on the leaderboards.
Liam was a deep thinker, and we always referred to him as our “sober child”. He was always thinking and writing, thinking and writing. He loved the power of stories. He compiled thousands of pages or writing and notes, and dreamed of his work being published. He was inspired by the writing of Brandon Sanderson and Ben Ireland, and planned on making writing his future career. We can see him laughing out loud that by his sudden passing he became the ultimate plot twist in his own story!
The most important thing to Liam was his faith in Jesus Christ. When he opened his phone or wallet this first thing you would see was pictures of the Savior and his Temple Recommend. He always wanted to be a missionary. He had a heart—and hug— big enough to include family, friends, strangers, and all of those in the Japan Tokyo South Mission where he was called. He was so filled with love for others that his heart couldn’t keep up and he was called home to complete his mission instead.
Liam would want everyone to remember that we are all part of a global story. He would encourage us to connect with and love each other, and to remember that the most important lessons in life are learned with your family.
Liam is survived by his parents Jared and Rebeccah Mildenstein, his siblings Kaelten, Koen, Bosko, and Avonlea Mildenstein, and a vast army of Mildenstein and Bosko extended family.
