Lari Asher Obituary (1950

Obituary for Lari Heather Asher (Thompson) Lari Heather Asher, mother of four and friend to so many more, passed away on April 23, 2016. She was 65 years old. She is survived by her husband Christopher, their four adult sons: Kevin (age 34), Sean (age 33), Julian (age 31), and Brandon (age 28), and her brother Ronald Thomspon. In Lieu of a funeral, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on May 3, 2016, at the LDS Chapel at the intersection of 920 S and 5th W In Provo, Utah. At her wish, made to many, her body was cremated. Lari was born in Inglewood, California, October 20, 1950, and was a graduate of the Los Angeles City School District. If you had asked her what about the decade of her high school graduation most influenced her, she would have told you, "The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. You know, the one which starred 'The Beatles'." A starry-eyed devotee of "The Fab Four," Lari attended both of their concerts in Los Angeles (The Hollywood Bowl and Dodger Staduim), and also saved up every dime she could get her hands on to make a trip to England. This trip, she actually did in the summer of 1971, resulting in her meeting with Paul McCartney, which did not go as she had planned. In 1973, Lari sold much of her Beatles' collection, and enrolled at BYU. It was at BYU that she was diagnosed with physical insomnia, an extremely rare disorder that has no known cause or cure, and which apparently cannot be passed on from parent to child. Maybe 100 people world-wide suffer from this affliction, but as Lari put it, "So what if we're outnumbered 59,999,999 to one. If you're that one, what do the odds matter?" Those odds mattered enough that she had to enlist the assistance of seven different presidents in order to get needed medication. So she pestered, as need required, different presidents, both parties. She got her medication. While she was at BYU in 1975, she met her future husband, whom she married in 1976. They were still together at her passing, just six weeks before their 40th anniversary. The lady who at age 25 became the devoted and willing bride was still performing those functions when circumstances at age 65 took her. She is, and will be, missed. .
