Our mom, Sharon Kay Fletcher, was born Aug 6, 1939 at the family home in Green River Wyoming and passed October 24, 2026 in her home of 58 years in Provo UT. Kay was the daughter if Archibald Anderson and Melba Syme Rollins Anderson. She was the baby of the family and much younger than her siblings. Her sister Betty and her brother Glen were out of the house during much of her childhood. Her sister, Maisel was 9 years older and became her sister/ second mom. They were incredibly close for all of Mom’s life.
Kay graduated from Green River High School, class of ‘57 and spent a semester at Brigham Young University. Though college wasn’t really her thing it turned out to be a fateful decision. While at BYU she began dating a fellow Green River High School alum, George Robert (Bob) Fletcher. They never dated in High School but fell in love in Provo and were married June 20th that same year in Green River, Wyoming. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They remained in Green River for a little over a year, and welcomed their first child, Scott Robert. Dad’s job at the US Postal Service led them to Cheyenne, Wyoming for the next 7 years. Sons Craig Steven and Trent Anderson soon followed. In 1967 the family was heartbroken when daughter Dani Layne was stillborn. At the end of 1967 Dad was transferred to Provo. They then built the home where Kay would live the rest of her long, happy life. In 1968 mom finally had her much longed for daughter, Robyn Kay. Again, heartbreak would follow in 1970 with a stillborn son, Dane Anderson.
Kay and her family settled in the Edgemont area of Provo where they became lifelong friends with neighbors and ward members. It was full of young families with all of their noisy kids running wild in the streets, nearby fields, and foothills. Mom and Dad, the Fisher family, Moses’, Ashton’s, Roylance’s and the Webb’s all witnessed the entire block quiet down as all those noisy kids went on to have noisy families of their own. And now the streets are alive again with sounds of boisterous, happy kids. Mom loved those sounds.
Mom was overjoyed when some 45 years ago, Aunt Maisel and Uncle Fred retired. They left Green River with Gran and moved two doors away. With Aunt Betty driving down from Salt Lake, the 3 sisters and their mom had a great time. They were all together again. Shopping, Lunches and trips together occupied them for years. After losing Gran and Aunt Betty, Kay and Maisel were left to consul each other as each lost their loving husbands. Dad passed in 2002 and Uncle Fred in 2010. The two sisters were inseparable. When Maisel passed last summer a piece of Mom went with her. It’s nice to think of all the loved ones back together again.
Kay was a loving daughter and was always her Daddy’s little girl and her Mom’s dress up doll. Kay was a loving wife and has missed Dad every day. And she was a sister who cherished her siblings. But her favorite role was always Mom. Countless times she told us, “I have the best kids in the world.” Despite evidence to the contrary, she really believed it. Mom had a number of jobs throughout her life. Dad’s work covered the necessities, so Mom worked to pay for sports, dance lessons and Robyn’s vast wardrobe. We are all grateful for the love and care she always gave us and our families. In the end she was ready for her next adventure. We will take comfort in that and miss her every day.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, siblings: Betty Hollingshead (Stan)
Glen Anderson, and Maisel Baker (Fred), her 2 children Dani Layne and Dane, a niece and nephew: Patricia Baker Hyde (Shane) and Robert Baker.
She was survived by her children: Scott (Julie), Craig, Trent (Vickie), Robyn Pulham (Brian) grandchildren: Jenny, Britt, Mandy, Bryce, Elise, Aaron, Nathan, Megan, Cole, Mckenna, Brett, and Steven and 18 great grandchildren with one on the way.
