Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Iris Meikle Hancey\n\n\r\n\t\t\t\tTempie Iris Meikle Hancey, age 95, of Provo died February 22, 2017 at her home in Provo, surrounded by loved ones. \n\nShe was born August 27, 1921 in Smithfield, Utah to Joseph Arthur and Temperance Allen Meikle. She attended North Cache High School and later married her high school sweetheart, Orlo Vernon Hancey. They made a life together with their four children in Oregon, living in Astoria for many years before returning to Utah in 2001. \n\nIris identified most strongly as a homemaker and an active Church member. She was a quiet, selfless individual who actively supported her family and those around her without expectation. She enjoyed the simple bounty of nature, partaking in fishing, clam digging and blackberry picking. For years she enjoyed an annual outing of camping in the mountains of eastern Oregon associated with the deer hunting season. She missed her special friends of the “Lunch Bunch” from the Astoria Ward and the beauty and activities of the Oregon coast. \n\nIris is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Orlo, who passed away in 2013. She is survived by daughter Annette Lunceford and husband Kenneth Lunceford; son James Hancey and wife Denise Hancey; daughter Janet Johnson and husband Dave Johnson; son Brian Hancey and wife Brenda Hancey; sister in law Mozelle Oja and daughter in law Michele Hancey. As well, she is survived by 15 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.\n\nFuneral services will be held on Saturday, Feb 25 at 2:00pm at the Stadium Avenue Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 650 Stadium Ave, Provo, UT. A viewing will be held 12:30-1:45pm on Saturday prior to services. Interment at Provo City Cemetery.
