Provo, Utah
Hermes Luiz Zanandrea, a resilient man of Brazilian roots, passed on July 5, 2026. Born in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil on November 20, 1948, to of 6 siblings. Hermes lived a life rich in experiences and accomplishments. He was a beacon of love and wit, always ready with a sharp retort or an engaging story. He was a proud resident of Provo, Utah.
He found joy in wood working and carpentry, as well as photography. He also enjoyed tinkering around and creating new things as challenges arised. He found much joy is working with his hands. Earning his Ph.D. in 1989 from BYU was a proud moment, most everyone knew him as "Dr. Z"; but he often said his greatest achievements were his two children, Michael and Melissa, and seeing them graduate from university. Another milestone that held a special place in his heart was receiving his US Citizenship in May of 2023 alongside his beloved wife, Maria, who received hers in June of the same year. He loved cheering on the BYU football team (he would call them "cardiac cougars") and the Utah Jazz. He enjoyed also kicking back with a good classic Disney or John Wayne movie with the house cats, Oscar and Huckle.
His resilience and loving nature will be remembered by his survivors, his son Michael, his daughter Melissa, his wife Maria, his son-in-law Jakob, as well as his sister Mirian and brother Mario. He is preceded in death by his parents Alcides Zanandrea & Olympia Gamberini, as well as siblings Faraday, Jose Paris, and Bruno.
