Lindon, Utah
Our loved husband, father, and “grumpy grandpa,” Gerhard Edward Boettcher, 87, of Lindon, Utah passed away August 2, 2024.
Since “nobody’s got a name like that,” he went by “Eddie.” Eddie was born November 17, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to Gerhard Albert Fredrich Boettcher and Wanda Hildegard Linde. He was the second of four children. His parents were both immigrants from Germany, and he learned English on the streets as German was the only language spoken in the home.
Around age 10, his family moved from New York to California. Eddie left school at 17 to help support his family. His first jobs were working in a lumber yard and painting with his dad. Later he went to El Camino College to get his journeyman’s degree. He was a general contractor for 50 years and built many homes, cabins, apartments, and restaurants in Utah, California, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington—he even renewed his contractor’s license last year at 86-years-old.
It was in California that he met the love of his life Linda Mae Lawson at a roller skating rink. They were married January 2, 1959 in St. George, Utah. Soon after, they moved to Salt Lake City and started their family. They had 5 boys and 5 girls. Their family moved several times and settled in the beautiful orchards of Lindon, Utah.
Eddie was a performer at heart and loved singing, playing the guitar, and telling jokes for anyone who would listen. He loved the outdoors especially horseback riding and boating at Lake Powell—where he water skied even when he was 80-years-old.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bernice, his brother Richard, and two precious babies, Dorothy Mae and Steven Edward. We know their reunion was joyous! He is survived by his wife, Linda Mae Lawson Boettcher; his sister, Erna (Earl-deceased) Davis; eight children, Jimmie Boettcher (Vanessa), Lila Christensen (Dennis), David Boettcher, Allen Boettcher, Kenneth Boettcher (Sherry), Liesa Harrison (Luke), Sarah McKee, and Teresa Osborne (Rich); and too many grandchildren and great grandchildren to count.
