Gary Richard Phair was born on May 23rd, 1938, in Medford, OR. He passed away July 8th, 2022, in Provo, UT. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, missionary, and friend.
Gary was born to Lorrayne and Ronald Phair. He spent the first six years of his childhood in Bonanza, OR. The family then moved to Klamath Falls, OR, where he spent the next twelve years of his life. During his high school years he wrestled, played baseball, and played the clarinet in his high school band. He also received an Eagle Scout award.
Gary graduated from Klamath Union High School and attended Brigham Young University. He later served a mission for the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Montevideo, Uruguay. Upon his returning home, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve, and then returned to BYU in 1960 and graduated in 1964 with a major in business and a minor in Spanish.
In 1962, he met Sherry Ann Mills in the BYU A cappella choir. After their courtship, they married on September 6th,1963 in the Mesa, AZ temple. They were blessed with six beautiful children.
After his graduation from BYU, Gary and Sherry moved back to Oregon where he and his brothers worked in the family construction business for four years. Later, they moved to Arizona, where he worked on his master’s degree in counseling at Arizona State University, while working at Motorola Corporation. While living in Arizona, Gary served in the bishopric, high council, and loved working with the youth. He then had an opportunity to go back into the construction business, where he built over 200 homes in the Latino community (Victory Acres) and custom homes in Mesa.
In 1992, Gary and Sherry moved to Utah, where he continued working in the construction and mortgage business. After Sherry retired from the tabernacle choir, they were asked to serve as Church Service Missionaries (Event Hosts) for six years on Temple Square.
Gary loved spending time with family! He loved working on family history, music, as well as going to all of his children and grandchildren’s games and performances.
