Gary Keith Mullins\n\nHusband, Father, Papa and friend passed away quietly in his home Feb 29, 2020 after fighting the effects\nof vascular dementia. He was watched over by his loving wife Kathleen from the beginning to the end.\nHe was 76.\n\nBorn February 8, 1944 in Salt Lake City Utah to Jean Frances Cooke and Lawrence Darrel Mullins. Gary\nwas a lover of nature and the out of doors and often shared stories of spending his summers with his\nGrandma Lula in Tridale Utah, playing in the fields and creeks and “feeling free”. Life at home was often\ndifficult and Gary would often work to support his younger siblings' and take care of them.\nGary graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and entered into the Army. He served a mission\nfor the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, in the Edinburgh Scotland mission. This is when he\nsaid his life really began. He loved the people of Scotland and he truly embraced the gospel of Jesus\nChrist.\n\nJust a few days after returning home from his mission he was introduced to Kathleen Whitehead and it\nwas love at first sight. He told her that night that he wanted to marry her, and they were engaged two\nweeks later. They celebrated 52 years together. They had four children and 13 grandchildren.\nGary worked hard for his family. He entered into the Army reserves and was celebrated for his rifle and\nmilitary discipline. He loved his job as a Winder Dairy Milk man and often joked that his children were\nthe milk man's kids. He worked as a District manager for the Deseret News and Tribune. He also had a\nway with tools and mechanics that allowed him to work and do repairs around the house and for family\nand friends.\n\nHe will be remembered for his constant teasing and his Donald Duck impersonations. That amazing\n“Tut” he did with his tongue when someone was doing something wrong, that would strike fear in any\nchild. His ability to use stories to explain something complex. His love for music and dancing. And for his\ndesire to give his family something better than he had growing up.\nGary is survived by his wife Kathleen Whitehead Mullins and his four children David Keith (Lori), Brian\nThomas (Erin), Gregory Scott (Codee) and Cassandra Murdock (Kenneth), 11 grandchildren and his\nbrothers and sister Jim (Cathy), Ken (Colleen), Kim (Shaunna), Melia (Rusty) and Mike (Jeanne). He\nproceeds his sister Cheryl and brothers Larry and Roger, and two grandbabies Mhairi Ahnna Murdock\nand Liam Thomas Mullins.\n\nFuneral services will be held Friday March 6, 2020 at the LDS Chapel on 3676 W 4700 South, Taylorsville\nUtah. There will be a viewing for family and friends Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm and Friday at \n9:00 am, followed by funeral services at 10:00 am. After graveside services at Valley View Memorial\nPark in West Valley City, there will be a luncheon for family and friends who have traveled to attend.\n\nFamily wish to express their sincere thanks to Aspire Hospice for their assistance, love and service.
