Doug Yates

–

Heber City, Utah

Doug was born on July 3, 1948, to Virgil and Ella “Maye” Yates in Park City, Utah. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born and raised in Park City, Utah and graduated from Park City High School. In 1969, he married LuJean Hixson and had 2 daughters; they later divorced. He married Debbie Price on September 9, 1978 and had another daughter. He started his career as a project manager at Eimco, which became Baker Hughes, then FL Shmidt, where he travelled worldwide overseeing the construction of water treatment facilities. He retired in 2013 after 40+ years. During this time, he was also a reserve police officer for Heber City, where he won’t live down the fact that he got lost in WALLSBURG in the 80’s on a call.
He loved to go camping, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a member of the Provo Elks Club, Lodge #849. He enjoyed trap shooting at the Heber Valley Gun Club, where he served as Vice President for a year. One of his greatest joys was restoring old cars (and buying new ones as was the Yates family tradition). He was a member of the Majestic Cruisers car club, where he and Debbie travelled around Utah and Wyoming showing the cars he built. They enjoyed having “Old Folks Breakfast” with his brother Carey, sister-in-law Carrie, and close friends, Steve and Susan Gurule, where they made many memories, exchanged ailments and had many laughs.
He is survived by his wife Debbie of 47 years; daughters Trina (Jim) Kirkham, Jenifer “Jeni” (Shane) Higgs, Lynett (Jeremy) Kohler and his fur-boy Jake; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; siblings Carey Yates, Brian Yates and Judy Nelson. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Arvil and great niece, Everlie.
The family would like to give thanks to Steve Mecham, his hospice nurse; Ben with Infusion Therapy; Jessica, Brittany, and the rest of his oncology team (Dr. Ririe and Dr. Sims).
In lieu of flowers, Doug and his family request donations to the Horse of Many Colors at www.thehorseofmanycolors.com.
Doug wished to have a celebration of life (no viewing or graveside service as he will be cremated), which will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 12:00pm at the Charleston Town Hall, located at 3454 W. 3400 S., Charleston, Utah.
