Alva Doris Roundtree Peck, known to her family as Boots, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Provo, Utah, at the age of 101. She was born March 21, 1925, in Chillicothe, Texas, to John Carl Roundtree and Doris Rose Gay. She grew up during the Great Depression alongside her older sister Betty.
Boots spent her childhood in Pampa and El Reno. She and her best friend Mary Ann Speed roller‑skated across town, explored Red Deer Creek, collected spiders, and built elaborate play worlds under the Four O’Clock flowers.
She graduated high school at sixteen and attended junior college, becoming an exceptionally fast shorthand expert, reaching 240 words per minute. During World War II, she worked at Pampa Army Air Field, handling personnel records and civil service reporting. She later worked for several attorneys, known for her competence, a colleague saying, "ask Doris, she knew what they were talking about."
Doris joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints in 1958 and remained active throughout her life. In retirement, she devoted herself to genealogy, traveling for family research and preserving family history with enthusiasm and care.
She lived independently until age 99. In her later years and even as her memory faded she spoke regularly of her daughter Betsy and the family she loved, frequently saying, “I got good kids.”
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Betty Lucille Roberson, and her daughter Elizabeth Gaye Christiansen. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, thirty great‑grandchildren, and three great‑great‑grandchildren.
We will have a memorial service for her at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 3511 N 180 E, Provo, UT 84604 on September 26 at 5:00 pm. After the service we will be serving her three favorite things in the world (after her family): Dr. Pepper, chocolates, and baked desserts. All are welcome."
