DerMont Bell Obituary (1930 - 2017)

Obituary for DerMont Bell DerMont Bell, 86, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2017 in Highland, Utah surrounded by his children. DerMont was born in Roosevelt, Utah on August 12, 1930; the youngest of four sons to Elmer Bell and Rachel Hair. He attended American Fork High School where he served as Student Body President. After high school, he served an LDS mission to the Hawaiian Islands and attended Brigham Young University where he earned both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees. After earning his Ph.D. from USC in 1959, he was offered a teaching position at BYU in the College of Business. While teaching at BYU, he met and later married his sweetheart and wife of 53 years, Linda Besner. They were married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on December 18, 1961 and settled in Provo, Utah where they raised their six children. DerMont spent his professional life teaching Business Education and Communication at BYU. Early in his career, he moved his family to Saudi Arabia where he worked as an advisor to the Saudi government. He also spent time in Nepal working for the Ford Foundation and later served as National President of Delta Pi Epsilon fraternity. DerMont was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the opportunity to serve wherever he was needed. He particularly enjoyed his time serving as a Missionary, Home Teacher, Bishop and Stake President. After retiring from BYU in 1995, DerMont and Linda served a full-time mission to Singapore and Malaysia. After their return home, he served in the Provo Temple as an Ordinance Worker, Sealer and member of the Temple Presidency. DerMont loved to read, write, garden, work in his yard, and travel; especially to Hawaii where he developed a deep love of its people and culture as a young missionary. He was an avid supporter of BYU athletics and rarely missed a game. However, his greatest joys in life came from spending time with his family and serving in his church callings. DerMont is survived by five children: Jeff (Karen) Bell of Highland, UT; Chris (Jill) Bell of Lehi, UT; John (Abbey) Bell of American Fork, UT; Brandon (Audrey) Bell of Stansbury Park, UT; Sue (Chad) Fullmer of Pleasant Grove, UT; 26 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers: Harold “Bud”, Jay and Farrel, a daughter, Erin (Bell) Young and a granddaughter, Kylie Fleming. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at the LDS Chapel 1541 North 1300 West in Pleasant Grove, Utah. A viewing will be held for family and friends Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 North University Avenue in Provo, Utah. A short viewing will also be held Saturday morning at the above noted Stake Center in Pleasant Grove from 10:00 – 10:45. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
