Darwon Lee Barney passed away at home on June 7, 2026 on the morning of his 75th birthday. Lee was born on June 7, 1951 in Delta, Utah, to Darwon L Barney and Melba Colleen Moody. The family moved to Heber Utah in 1956, where Lee would spend the remainder of his childhood. Lee enjoyed spending summers with his grandparents and cousins in Delta. He was a gifted athlete who loved to play baseball with the neighborhood kids, and he kept that love of sports alive throughout his life.
Lee lost his father to cancer when he was twelve years old, an event that greatly impacted the rest of his life. Because of this, he grew closer to his mother and sisters, learning to truly value his family. His mother later married Clyde Muir creating a large blended family.
After high school, Lee spent some time living in Hawaii with his Uncle Pat Barney and his family, becoming another brother to his cousins there. While in Hawaii, Lee prepared to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He didn’t tell his mom that he was planning to serve, and he had his mission call sent to her home in Heber as a surprise. She was definitely surprised. Lee served in the Paris, France mission and had a love for the French language and people for the rest of his life.
In 1974, he married Corine Robinson. Together, they had four children, Brandon, Trevor, Mandy, and Caleb. They later divorced.
He loved playing catch and other sports with his children as well as simply spending time with them playing Clue and Trivial Pursuit. He was the undisputed champion of the sports category in Trivial Pursuit, though he excelled at the other categories as well.
Lee was an avid collector of baseball cards and sports memorabilia and spent several years selling these through his job at Field of Dreams in California. Through this work, he was able to meet many professional athletes while obtaining memorabilia for the store. However, his favorite aspect of this job was when he was able to bring his children to conventions and signings.
He was privileged to reconnect with Karol Edwards, and the two of them were wed on August 24, 1996. Lee was excited to become the stepfather of Tyler, Olivia, Spencer, and Autumn.
The most important aspects of Lee’s life were his family and his faith. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served faithfully in many callings over the years. He loved his Savior, and he endeavored to share that love with his family and his many friends. Lee showed kindness and compassion to all around him. He loved people, and he loved spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darwon L Barney and Melba Colleen Moody, his stepfather Clyde Muir, and his brother-in-law Lynn Greer. He is survived by his wife, Karol Edwards Barney, his children, Brandon Barney (Kristin), Trevor Barney (Stacie), Mandy Zundel (Matt), Caleb Barney (Hillary), and his step-children Tyler Edwards (Brittoni), Olivia Hales (Matt), Spencer Edwards (Annie), and Autumn Jensen (Darcy), as well as 32 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Darleen Kinsey (Jim), Karen Cox (John), Diann Greer, Joyce Olsen (Gordy), Annette Jones (Don), and Sharon Gregrich (Shawn).
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel at 3450 South 3500 W in Charleston Utah on Monday, June 15 at 11:00 am. Viewings will be held there on Sunday, June 14 from 6:00-8:00 pm, and on Monday, June 15 from 9:00-10:45 am.
