Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Christine Baird (Jones)\n\n\r\n\t\t\t\tChristine Jones Baird\n\nOur loving wife and mother, Christine Jones Baird, passed away in her home in Provo, Utah on Thursday, May 31, 2018, from pancreatic cancer. She was born on September 28, 1950, in Los Angeles, California, to goodly parents, Collins Elmer Jones and Florence Maxine Brown. Her father was an athlete, coach and a hard worker. Her mother was an example of refinement and propriety. Christine loved her parents and embodied these traits with grace.\n\nGrowing up in southern California, Christine developed a lifelong love for the beach. She lived with her family in New Zealand while her father served on a church assignment and there was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from Brigham Young University in child development and family relations.\n\nWhile at BYU, Christine met Dennis Ray Baird and they married in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on May 30, 1972. She loved all things cowboy, especially her cowboy husband and considered him to be quite a catch. They could be found at Cowboy Church in their boots and western attire or listening to the bagpipes in their Baird Clan plaid at the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan.\n\nChristine loved her family and was grateful for her children and grandchildren. Her favorite scripture was Malachi 4:6, “And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” She turned her heart and her children’s hearts to their ancestors. She honored her rich pioneer heritage by studying and celebrating her ancestors and as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She thoughtfully created a legacy of unique traditions for her own family. \n\nA Master Gardener, she knew shrubs and flowers by name. Her dream came true when Dennis bought her a pickup truck to haul her plants and dirt. She found joy working in gardens and this was built on her knowledge of God’s creations and that life began in a garden. Christine and Dennis traveled to visit the most beautiful gardens in the world. \n\nShe loved the Lord and believed in hard work, good stewardship, and service. Everything she touched was made more beautiful by her willing hands. She cared for her home, yard, family, and those whom she served in her community and church. She served faithfully in all the auxiliaries of the church including Primary President and Relief Society President. \n\nChristine is survived by her husband, Dennis, Provo, Utah; son, Matthew Frederick Baird, Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Heather Christine Baird (Richard) Callister, Orinda, California; daughter, Leslie Sarah Baird (Scott) Sorenson, Lebanon, Pennsylvania; daughter, Karen Maxine Baird (Derek) Christensen, Pleasant Grove, Utah; daughter, Stephanie Edna Baird (Samuel) Larson, Sandy, Utah; daughter, Joanna Hazel Baird (Jeffrey) Beus, Kuna, Idaho; twenty five grandchildren; brother, Collins Bruce (Jerri) Jones, Richardson, Texas.\n\nWe find great comfort in knowing of her joyous reunion with family members preceding her in death, parents and sister, Patricia Lynn Jones (Robert) Liljenquist.\n\nServices will be on Monday, June 11, at 11 a.m., Pleasant View LDS chapel, 2445 North Timpview Drive (650 East), Provo, Utah. Friends and family may call on Sunday, June 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo, Utah, and Monday at the church from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to services.
