On January 31, 2025, Carol Frances Basye Brown, passed away surrounded by the love and affection of her family. She was born on December 13, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her spirit a testament to her strong faith and dedication to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A loving wife, mother, homemaker, and friend, Carol had a unique ability to fill every space with beauty and warmth, making all who knew her feel welcomed and loved.
Her father’s military career gave the family the opportunity to live around the world, including Japan, Washington DC, Germany, and Austria. Her rich experiences abroad greatly influenced her life. She graduated from high school in Frankfurt, Germany and attended both the University of Vienna and the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she majored in German and French and later taught high school German. In Boulder, she met and married Warren Brown, her dear husband of 60 years.
After Warren accepted a job with Ford Motor Company, Warren and Carol settled in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where they raised their four children and lived for over 35 years. Carol made her home a welcoming and nurturing place where people loved to gather and her children’s friends loved to come and eat and stay. Her warmth and positivity brought joy to all around her. She spent her time in Michigan joyfully serving in her church’s Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations, researching her family history, being a docent at Detroit’s historical gem Henry Ford’s Greenfield Village, and owning a tile design firm. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, decorating her home, sewing, cooking, wallpapering, painting, quilting, basket making, and designing stained glass.
After they retired, Carol and Warren moved to the Kansas City, Missouri area and then to Provo, Utah, to be closer to family. Carol found her greatest joy in the moments spent with her family—enjoying family dinners, traveling together, taking long drives, sharing heartfelt conversations, and cheering on her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, Warren Brown, and her children Lisa Fassmann (Stephan), Laura Hill (Keith), Marty Evans (Rick), and Chris Brown (Haylee); her sister Marty Webb (Harold); and her 11 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Frances Basye and by her granddaughter Martha Fassmann.
