\nBarbara Ann Thomas Fowler age 85 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday September 25, 2021 of complications from surgery. \nBarbara was born on June 18, 1936 in Hoboken, NJ and was raised in Elmira, NY. Barbara is the daughter of Tudor and Sadie Thomas. She attended Southside High School in Elmira, NY. During her junior year she met her future husband Kirk Fowler while swimming at Brand Park Pool where he was the head lifeguard. The two became inseparable sweethearts and married in November of 1955. \nAfter five years of marriage Kirk & Barbara took their two young daughters and moved to Provo, UT where Kirk completed his degree at Brigham Young University. After graduation they moved back to Elmira, NY where they raised their four children. They never forgot their great experiences in Provo, UT and became life-long BYU fans. While living in Elmira, Barbara worked as a teacher’s-aid at George Washington Elementary and Hardy Elementary Schools. \nBarbara’s greatest joy in life was her family. After all four of her children migrated west to attend BYU, Kirk and Barbara followed and moved back to Provo, UT. They lived in the Provo Edgemont area for more than 20 years and re-located to Orem, UT 15 years ago. She cherished the wonderful friendships that have been made throughout her life in all the places she lived. \nBarbara was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a Stake Relief Society President multiple times and in many other callings throughout her life.\nBarbara and Kirk devoted the last 17 years as volunteers at Brigham Young University in the Athletic Department. They loved, supported, and counseled literally thousands of student athletes and coaches and impacted their lives in a positive way while serving as hosts in the Student Athlete Building. Many of the athletes still refer to them as Grandma and Grandpa Fowler. They also welcomed visitors from across the country as hosts for visiting teams at football and basketball games.\nBarbara leaves a legacy of love that is felt by everyone she has ever interacted with. She is survived by her husband Kirk Fowler (Orem, UT), Her children: Sheree (Jeff) Garner (Orem, UT), Laurie (Joel) Craft (Orem, UT), Blaine (Brenda) Fowler (Provo, UT), and Kelly (Jerry) Stayner (Orem, UT). 23 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren, Sister Arlene (Mike) Konkus of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. \nThere was a joyous reunion in Heaven with her mother and father, Tudor and Sadie Thomas, and other cherished relatives who preceded her in death.\nA viewing will be held on Sunday October 3, 2021 at Nelson Family Mortuary 4780 North University Ave, Provo, UT 84604 from 6:00 – 8:00PM.\nThe funeral service will be held on Monday October 4, 2021 at 12:00 Noon also at Nelson Family Mortuary. There will be a brief viewing preceding the funeral service from 11:00 – 11:45 AM\nInterment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 North 650 East Provo, UT 84601.
