Alan R. Nielsen, loving son, brother, husband, dad and grandpa, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 30, 2017.
Alan was born to Gessel and Bena Nielsen on July 17, 1945. He spent all of his youth in Logan, Utah where he attended Logan schools and graduated from Logan High School. He attended Utah State University and LDS Business College. He met his wife Meriam at the Cache County Fair when he was 16 years old. They were married in the Logan Temple on January 20th 1967. Together they had 4 children whom he loved dearly. He has 14 grandkids who were the light of his life.
Alan joined the Air Force Reserve in 1966 and served his country faithfully for 29 years. He was proud to serve his country for so long. He also had many great friends and memories of his time with the Air Force.
Alan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he held many different callings. He loved to serve others. He was always out doing something for others; shoveling someone’s walks or taking out the elderly neighbors garbage.
Alan loved working in the yard. He loved his flowers. He received Orem City Beautification award and was proud of that accomplishment.
Alan’s life was never easy. He suffered many different afflictions. Many who knew him didn’t know of his sufferings. He never complained and just kept pressing on. He had such strength and faith. Even as his life came to an end he suffered greatly. His family is so thankful he has finally found some peace and freedom.
